A Word from the Word - September

Praying in His Name

John 17:6 (ESV) “ I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world.” Jesus’ revelation of God’s name entails making known the Father in his whole person, both his works and words.

John 16:23 (ESV) “In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, He will give it you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” What does ‘”in my name” mean? When we pray in Jesus name we pray in a way consistent with His name. The Father evaluates our motives. If they are consistent with “His Name,” He will answer and our joy will be full.

Insight

We have boldness to enter the throne room of Heaven, because we come in “His Name” and authority and say, “Father I want to share some burdens with you.” Hebrews 4:14-16

Quotes

Spurgeon, The Treasury of David. Psalm 119:1

“Doubtless, the more complete our sanctification the more intense our blessedness. In other words, and let us mark this down: The holier we live, the more content we will be.” Taken from a Hebrew Word for the day, by Dr. JD. Watson AMG Publications.
